VNA Hospice Care volunteers are caring and compassionate men and woman who want to contribute to others in a meaningful way. They come from diverse backgrounds, are young and old, working and retired and have various interests. No special skills are required-anyone who is caring and compassionate can become a hospice volunteer.
Volunteers do many things including:
- Visit a patient and provide companionship and support;
- Stay with a patient to provide respite for the primary caregiver;
- Help a patient or family member with errands or transportation;
- Assist in fundraising and special events;
- Provide office support
VNA Hospice Care provides a comprehensive orientation and training program for all volunteers who desire to work with patients. This program examines the dynamics of the volunteer’s relationship with the patient and the family. It also presents an overview of the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges our families may be facing. Volunteers receive ongoing support from other volunteers and hospice staff through monthly support groups and regularly scheduled workshops. A commitment of one year of volunteer services is requested.
